Food and God

by

Jesus answered, “It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matt. 4:4. (YouTube Video: The Light Moment)

Bread generally refers to food and we know that food is vital for nourishment and survival. On the average people can survive between 4 – 6 weeks without food and a maximum of one week without water. As important as food and water are, God’s Word ranks higher. You can pick and choose what food to eat and when to eat it. You can reject the veggies as some children do and you can skip the dessert on the advice of your doctor, but for the Word of God we need to hang on to every word. While a starving person will eat anything edible without concern for taste or nutrition, a person who is not very hungry will choose what to eat and may be concerned about taste and nutritional value.

We need God’s Word as starving people do for it is the bread of life and it “is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2Tim 3:16) We should not ignore any part of the Bible nor fail to read it daily. What if each one of us will pause every time before a meal, snack or a drink to quickly reflect on a scripture to feed ourselves spiritually before the physical food?
